Where I'll be Headed this Year!

This past month has been full of everything it seems: work has been crazy, life has been one thing after another and trip planning for 2014, well, we've been doing a lot of that too!  At the beginning of the year, Nick and I always sit down and plan out our calendar.  For us, it's necessary not only to plan for time off but also to schedule around work trips that I know I'll be taking, family events and anything else that pops up on our calendar.  Planning our year out in advance helps us to get to all the amazing places we want to go and make sure we have enough time to make it there.

This year, we're a little behind on the majority of the planning for individual trips just because I haven't had hardly any time to do a ton of it, however we do have locations narrowed down and where we will be in what months.  We'll be gone in February for our trip through Asia which is all complete for the planning stage, but when we get home, I'll be turning my attention to our next amazing destinations on the horizon.

I've updated my Upcoming Travels page as well, but here is where we're planning on heading this year, many of the places I had on my Travel Wishlist at the beginning of the year and am so excited to experience!

In March, we'll be escaping for a weekend in Eastern Washington.  We're going to be staying at the Desert Wind Winery, indulging in gorgeous scenery and fantastic food and wine.  I'm so excited to make the 4 hour drive and finally get to see this part of Washington.

April will bring a busy month of travel, with our first stop a weekend in Seattle.  I'll be taking a certification exam in Seattle and we'll stay for the weekend, enjoying our favorite restaurants, a trip to Pike's Place Market and maybe doing a little shopping.

April will also bring us to the South West!  I'm so excited for our weekend trip to New Mexico, with stops in Albuquerque and Santa Fe.  We're going to take in the exotic landscape and spend some time at the Native American ruins all over this area.  I can't wait for this adventure.

For our annual Memorial Day weekend escape, this year we chose to stay on the West Coast with a trip to LA and driving the scenic route up the coast to Santa Barbara.  I'm so excited to take in the gorgeous Southern California coast and spend a weekend in the sun.

For Nick's birthday, we're going to heading up to the San Juan Islands in July.  We've been wanting to make it up there for a while and this was the perfect chance to do it.  We'll be taking in the gorgeous views, taking the ferry over to the Islands and I'm hoping for some whale watching.

We'll make our annual August trip to Hawaii to photograph my projects that are under construction during the Summer.  This year, I'm hoping to take Nick over to the Windward side of the Island so he can take in the incredible mountains on that area of Oahu.

And the last trip on the calendar for now for 2014, will be our Fall Europe trip with stops in Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Brugges and Paris in October. These are all places in Europe that have been on the top of my list for a while and even though we don't have much of this trip booked yet (other than our flights to Copenhagen), I'm really excited to start planning this trip!

  2. I'm from Albuquerque so it's always nice to see it on a traveling list, but most of the Native American sites in and around the cities of Albuquerque and Santa Fe aren't ruins but actual functioning pueblos and reservations. There are of course ruins as well, but you might have to drive a bit further to see them. You should see definitely the Petroglyphs if you are in the Albuquerque/Santa Fe area. And of course, Puye Cliff Dwellings (the stunning, famous, ancient ruins) are about an hour and a half drive from Albuquerque.

And you have to be really careful of photography. It's usually okay for private use on Navajo lands, but lots of the Pueblos ban photography. x

  16. I'm a transplant from the deep south (Louisiana) to Eastern WA! You'll be so surprised at the terrain. My husband told me to never admit that I was a "wine out of the box" gal (not ashamed) but exploring all the vineyards and wine tasting here has been so exciting! Washington is such a diverse state, it will be fun to explore. I hope y'all have fun while you are here!
