{Favorite Places} Marrakech Souks

I thought we'd start the week off with a return to Morocco...

Our experience in Marrakech last March was really different than we're used to when traveling.  I had a little bit more of a heads-up in terms of being in a Muslim country than Nick did, after growing up in Saudi Arabia, but it had been a long time for me and I too, was thrown off at times in the chaos of Marrakech.

Traveling outside of Europe or North America can definitely take you back a bit but it's also an important part of being a traveler.  Marrakech was such a great experience and I'd go back to Morocco definitely.

I grew up going to the Souks in Saudi and so when we were in Marrakech, this was one of the things I was really looking forward to.  So we meandered and got lost many times in the narrow alleyways of the Marrakech souks.  Through the process though, I got some gorgeous jewelry, silver tea pots and many other items that I'll always treasure.  We also entered one stall to buy scarves for family members when the owner proceeded to wrap my head up in the traditional Berber headwrap.  It was a truly memorable experience and one that I'll never forget.  Even though it took us forever to find our way out of the maze like stalls and back to our Riad, it was truly such a unique experience.
