{Favorite Places} Iceland's South Coast

One of my absolute {Favorite Places} in Iceland was the South Coast.  We ended our day tour here on our second day in Iceland and it was a magical finish to our day exploring the island.  We hit this stretch of coast at sunset around 4:30pm and after driving for miles along the lava rock strewn coast, we stopped and watched the sunset over the ocean.

One thing that I loved in this stretch of coast was that for miles, it was just lava rock covered in about 3 inches of deep olive green moss.  The combination of the black lava rock, the olive green moss and the snow covering it in spots was pretty surreal.  It was a landscape like I've never seen anywhere else and the combination of the strange colors and textures made this area feel very much like another planet.  The feeling as we wandered along the lava rock and then ultimately as we watched the sun set, was surreal.

I find it very hard to put into words the feelings I experienced in Iceland as it's truly so unique and like no where else I've ever been.  This place was no different and it truly was an experience to last a lifetime.  Even our guide (who lives in Iceland) was overtaken by the gorgeous sunset we experienced and we all stood by the car (without another human for miles) as it fell over the horizon, completely spellbound.
