I was looking back through our photos from Iceland in November and was remembering what a lovely trip we had there. There were places in Iceland that touched me deeply and are memories I'll never forget. I wrote a post about some of those moments when we first returned, but I wanted to touch more on one of those places in particular as one of my {Favorite Places}.

The first place we stopped on our day tour out in Iceland with our guide was Thingvellir. This is the site of the first Viking parliament and now a national park. We arrived at this spot around 9am before the sun had risen and before the tour buses got there full of people. There was about 20 minutes where we all just stood looking out over this view point as the expanse was spread out before us without another soul in sight, in the pre-dawn light and as the snow fell around us.
It was truly a magical moment, one of many I experienced in Iceland, that gave you the feeling of the history before you. To stand there in the dark, snow falling around you and think about how many thousands of years ago someone might have stood right where you are. That is such a powerful memory of mine, a moment I'll never forget. Thingvellir is breathtaking as you look out over the land and a place that truly stands the test of time, a place that reminds you of how small you are in the scope of the world and time but that also links you in unimaginable ways to our past.
It was one of those moments for me that I'll never forget, a moment that I stood in the snowy dawn in Iceland and one of the many moments in Iceland that took my breath away.
i love how you can see the light on the background on some of these. so pretty!
